Telangana government has recently surprised everyone by increasing the ex-gratia from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. This amount will be given to the families of the Farmers who have committed suicides in the past one year.
This move has not only got the appreciation from the farmers in the state, but also has created new controversies. Here is how.
As per opposition parties, the number of suicides in the state is more than 1300. On the other hand, the Telangana govt. says that only 430 farmers committed suicides since they formed govt. in the state.
Moreover, out of the 430 suicide cases, only 131 farmers are eligible for ex-gratia, remaining don’t meet the criteria. Farmers and opposition parties are not at all happy with this revelation by the T Govt. They are demanding for the ex-gratia to be allotted to all the deceased farmers.
This issue has now created new rift between Government and the farmers’ families.
