On September 20, 2015, Telangana government had taken a revolutionary decision of hiking Ex-gratia for the farmer’s suicides from existing Rs 1.5 lakhs to Rs 6 lakhs to effectively handle agriculture crisis in the state.
However, the government played cleverly by announcing that the new ex gratia would not be applicable to the families of the Farmers who committed suicide before 19th September, 2015.
As expected, it triggered fresh controversy and huge uproar as the families of farmers who committed suicide before Sept 19 will get only Rs 1.5 lakh.
To end the controversy, the Telangana government has finally decided to agree to the demands of farmers and issued a fresh circular revising the rules.
As per the revised order, the farmers who had committed suicide from June 2, 2014, will also be given hike, Rs 6 lakh compensation.
As per independent surveys and opposition, more than 1200 farmer suicides were recorded since June 2014. It could sum up to huge amount.
