The United Nations on Thursday announced that June 21 will be International Day of Yoga, receiving a measure proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who said yoga lets people “discover the feeling of unity with yourself, the world and the nature.”
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the International Day of Yoga would bring attention for yoga’s holistic benefits.
“Yoga can contribute to resilience against non-communicable diseases. Yoga can unite communities in a comprehensive way that creates admiration,” Ban said.
“Yoga is a sport that can contribute to development and Peace. Yoga can even help people in crisis circumstances to discover alleviation from anxiety.” Ban added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the decision taken by the UN and thanked all the 177 counties of the Worldwide body.
“Elated! Have no words to describe my joy on the @UN declaring 21st June as ‘International Day of Yoga’. I fully welcome the decision,” Modi tweeted soon after the resolution was adopted in New York.
Head administrator Narendra Modi communicated satisfaction over the UN’s choice proclaiming June 21 as ‘Worldwide Day of Yoga’ and thanked all the 177 countries of the worldwide body.
“Elated! Have no words to depict my satisfaction on the @un proclaiming 21st June as ‘Worldwide Day of Yoga’. I completely welcome the choice,” Modi tweeted.
