According to a report published by the Wall Street Journal, the World’s largest American retailer Wal-Mart bribed millions of dollars to the local officials in India to facilitate its Indian Operations.
As per the report, the giant retailer paid bribes ranging from $5 to $500 to Indian local officials to either clear goods at customs or to secure real estate permits in the country. When added together, all these small bribes accounted to millions of US dollars.
Federal investigators found this information during their probe into the allegations of Corruption at Wal-Mart Stores in Mexico.
When questioned, Wal-Mart India Vice President said that they are co-operating with the government in the probe and can’t comment further.
UPA regime helped Wal-Mart to step in India. There have been many allegations by the social workers that the multi-brand retail company had paid huge bribes to the UPA govt. to set foot in India but nothing has been proved until now.
