England Women’s cricket team player Sophie Ecclestone has won the ICC (International Cricket Council) Women’s Emerging Player of the Year award.

Reacting to the news, Ecclestone said to ICC Media, “I’m really delighted to win this award. The most important thing is winning on the field but it’s nice to be recognised. I work really hard to try and improve my game and I’ve really enjoyed the last 12 months. It was my first full year as an England player after finishing my education so it’s amazing to get an award like this.”

Ecclestone made her Twenty20 International (T20I) debut in July 2016 during Pakistan’s tour of England.

She made her Test debut for England Women against Australia Women on in November 2017 in the Women’s Ashes.

In October 2018, she was named in England’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies

The ICC Awards are a set of sports awards for cricket. The awards recognise and honour the top International Cricket players of the previous 12 months.

The awards have been institutionalised by ICC Council since 2004.
