Just few days after emerging as Miss Iraq, after 43 years, 20-year-old Economics student Shaimaa Qasim has received a phone call from the terrorist outfit ISIS threatening her to either join ISIS or be kidnapped.
However, Shaimaa is determined to not bow down to the demands of the terrorist unit. “I want to prove that the Iraqi woman has her own existence in society, she has her rights like men. I am afraid of nothing because I am confident that what I am doing is not wrong,” said the courageous beauty queen.
15 contestants dropped out of the beauty competition after criticism from few conservative sections of society. After threats from religious leaders, the contest was already postponed until December and organizers even banned the swimsuit section during the pageant.
Earlier Shaimaa created history by outsmarting over 200 contestants. In fact, the beauty pageant took place amidst intense protests from few religious fanatics. She will represent Iraq in the Miss Universe contest to be held in Thailand in March 2016.
